Post: Management Accountant – Maternity Cover

Department: Finance

Reporting to: Finance Manager

Location: Bath City Centre (with potential for some home working)

Hours of work: 35 hours per week, Monday - Friday


Job summary: The Management Accountant will have a hugely varied role, assisting the

Finance Manager across a range of finance functions. This includes preparing management accounts on a timely basis after the month end. They will empower colleagues across the organisation in financial decision-making.



Principal Accountabilities and Standards

 To support the Finance Manager and other members of the team in ensuring the

effective day to day running of the charity.

 In interacting with colleagues, to build a positive organisational culture of openness and leadership in line with our values.

 Ensure a robust financial control environment is maintained and documented.



Main Duties and Responsibilities

Preparing monthly management accounts for both the Charity and its Trading

Subsidiary. This includes:

 reconciling balance sheet accounts,

 posting journals (e.g., prepayments, accruals, deferred income, and fixed assets),

 analysing variances from budget or forecast,

 working with colleagues to keep forecasts up to date, and

 creating timely reports for colleagues ahead of budget meetings.

 Assisting with the annual accounts and audit for the Charity and its Trading Subsidiary.

 Creating reports as and when requested to aid financial decision-making across the

organisation.

 Other ad hoc duties, including (but not limited to) raising sales invoices, calculating

intercompany recharges, claiming gift aid, managing service charges and supporting

other members of the finance team with bookkeeping.



Person Specification


Essential

 Full or part financial qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, AAT, CIMA)

 Previous role working within a finance team in a financial or management accounting

role

 Advanced data analysis skills, particularly in Excel (e.g., pivot tables, look up formulas)

 Capable of communicating complex ideas clearly and adapting communication style for

the audience



Desirable

 Involvement in the charitable sector

 Understanding of the challenges faced by the charity’s key beneficiaries

 Familiarity with VAT rules in charities

 Familiarity with Mac computers and the Microsoft Office suite

 Quick to learn new software
