Free Adult Community Learning courses in 2022...

The team at Bath College Adult Community Learning (ACL) has started 2022 as they mean to go on by running old favourite courses, as well as new ideas and initiatives to engage and upskill the residents of BANES. Below is a range of courses currently being offered for free and the eligibility criteria can be found at the bottom of this article.


Princes Trust

Supporting the young adults in our community, the Princes Trust Programme is due to start again in February, this time at the world famous Pump Rooms in Bath. It's a great opportunity for young people aged 19-25, so if you know somebody who is NEET and would like a new challenge, please email Ben.


Essential Digital Skills Qualification

The EDSQ covers the basics of: Using Devices and Handling Information, Creating and Editing, Communication, Transacting and Being Safe and Responsible Online. It is a nationally recognised qualification and they are one of the first colleges currently delivering. Learners will be invited to take part in an initial assessment so that they can place them into a class which is a suitable level for their abilities. To book an initial assessment, please email acl@bathcollege.ac.uk and let them know the preferred location (Bath, Radstock or Twerton) and your preferred time of day (AM, PM, Evening).


Introduction to Administration

This popular course runs from the 13th of January until the 17th of March, and is a great starting point for anyone looking for a new career in administration. It looks at both individual and team projects within the course, and learners have gone on to further administration qualifications with some even starting their own businesses. This course takes place from 09:30-14:30 on Thursdays at Bath College City Centre Campus, usual eligibility applies. Email acl to enrol or refer!


IT Skills

They have a wide variety of IT courses available starting not only in January, but throughout 2022. Bath College ACL support learners who are completely new to IT in their Computer Confidence courses, while taking those with a little more experience through specific skills such as Excel and Powerpoint. Get in touch to find out what is starting soon and where - they deliver across BANES, so there should always be a course that suits if not now, then soon! Construction SWAP

This course is a two week intensive programme for anyone who is looking for a career in the construction industry. They run the sessions from 09:30-14:30 across Bath College campuses and not only provide a CSCS card within this, but also a guaranteed job interview at the end of the two weeks. This course is running from the 17th until the 28th of January and if you have any questions, please give Clive or Mia a shout. Email referrals or questions to acl@bathcollege.ac.uk


English and Maths Functional Skills

Bath College run an English and Maths skills courses in Twerton and Radstock througout the year. To take part, a learner simply needs to take an initial assessment with a tutor to make sure that they are placed in a class at the correct level for their learning. If you would like to refer anybody, please email Marcelle and she will be in touch with you soon!


Employment Pop Up Shop

Running on Thursdays throughout January (Covid permitting), 15 New Bond Street in Bath will be transformed into an employment hub. Manned by Bath College, Future Bright, the BANES employment Hub and friends, they will be offering support, advice and guidance for anyone looking for employment or training. Come along and see them, or send your clients up for a chat! Running from 11-3 on Thursdays in January.

Adult Community Learning Eligibility

All of their courses are free to anyone over the age of 19 who is not currently in work or who is earning less than £19,003 per year. You must also be a resident of B&NES and have been resident in the UK for 3 or more years. If relevant, proof of settlement status will be required. To take part in one of their online courses, the learner will require an internet connection with a suitable device for video and audio, preferably a laptop.
