  • 3SG Director Celebrates 1 Year in Post

Our Director, Becky Brooks, recently celebrated 1 year with 3SG! Hear from Becky as she reflects on the past year, and what lies in store for the future at 3SG. "I can't believe it has been a year already since I joined 3SG. It's been a challenging year, but a wonderful one too - moving into a new sector was always going to require some time to settle in. I think I've found my feet, I'm starting to learn the language of the Integrated Care space and I've absolutely loved meeting all of the amazing organisations and people working within them that 3SG supports. The work that is delivered for the community of Bath and North East Somerset in challenging times is incredible. "3SG exists to support and strengthen the Third Sector in B&NES, and I've made some good connections within the Sector and also outside of it to help deliver support needed and will be building on this within the next year. We're also excited to be moving our office space back to the city centre as of June, so that we are more central as an Infrastructure Organisation (although we will miss our friends at Fairfield House, a big thank you to them for having us). I'd also like to plan more events for North East Somerset as well over the course of the next few months. "2023 has been the year of the Network - we've successfully launched the Ageing Well Network and the Bath Social Impact Network with partners and both have bright futures ahead of them. We are also looking forward to our first Volunteer Fair, which will take place in September alongside the Community Volunteer Service and St Mungo's, to help bring together organisations and local residents. "There's so much more to come, but as a charity ourselves, it is vital that Third Sector Infrastructure is supported and that the glue that brings everyone together is not lost. We are hopeful for the future and excited for what lies ahead!" Becky Brooks, Director at 3SG

  • 3SG to bid farewell to Miles Lloyd

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that our Project Manager, and dear friend, Miles Lloyd, will be leaving 3SG for pastures new in June. Miles has been an invaluable and instrumental part of the team since his arrival three years ago, and with news of his departure, our Director, Becky, had a few words to share... "As a really close team, we are absolutely devastated to be saying goodbye to Miles, but, speaking as friends, we also need to be excited for this new chapter in his life. He'll be making the permanent move to London, with a new challenge of working for a large charitable organisation in something that he is hugely passionate about - sport and fitness. "There have been lots of tears already and I'm sure there will be a few more before his last day, but we'd like to put on record the biggest thanks to Miles. He always goes above and beyond and has given so much to the Third Sector and the local community, particularly through his work during the pandemic - and he has firmly helped 3SG to establish itself as the Infrastructure Organisation for BaNES. "I have never met someone so dedicated, hardworking and kind and we will miss him greatly. I only accepted his resignation on the caveat that he returns one day! Good luck Miles, we are all rooting for you - you have such a bright future ahead." A message from Miles: "Three years ago, I joined 3SG straight out of university and into a pandemic! Whilst there have been so many memorable moments in my role, the most enjoyable part has been the incredible people I’ve met along the way. "I have had the privilege of working with brilliant trustees, amazing volunteers, and a diverse range of members. I have learned so much from all of you, and I’m so grateful to have worked with such inspiring people. "A special thanks to Emma and Becky who have been the most incredible people to work with and I’m going to miss our laughs and foodie chats a lot!! "I will cherish the memories I have made here, thank you for everything!" We know that many of you will be sad to hear this news, and keen to say your goodbyes to Miles and wish him well on his future endeavours in London. We have therefore adapted our Third Sector Social, on Friday 23rd June, to serve the dual purpose of providing Miles with a fitting send off. If you would like to come along, please register here. This event will take place between 4.30 - 6.30pm at Newark Works, Bath. Of course, this news also opens up an opportunity for a new individual to join the team at 3SG. We are now actively recruiting for a Project Manager who is passionate about supporting the Third Sector. • New South West Technology Volunteers Site now Live

Technology Volunteers has announced the re-launch of the re-branded new website. The platform exists to connect talented folk in tech with underfunded charities, groups and schools in the UK who don't have the funds or technical knowledge to transform or improve their digital processes and systems. In doing so the volunteers allow charities to spend more time doing the valuable work they need to do to make the world a better place. Since the relaunch in March this year [carried out by IT Services & Consulting company AND Digital] there have already been over 200 tech professionals sign up as volunteers and there are currently 17 live projects for charities such as Citizens Advice Bureau and Penny Brohn. “There are some awesome initiatives available on the market who inspire us daily” says Alicia Teagle, Founder at Technology Volunteers “But we were really looking to have specialist focus on technology volunteering for individuals or companies who want to give back and gift their skills to underfunded charities across the UK .... at that moment Technology Volunteers was created.” “Having a project that we can work on that’s socially positive can be really motivating and reassuring to us as developers,” says Kyle Lawson, Product Developer at AND Digital. “To know that what you are working on is reinforcing something good and giving back to the community.” Originally founded in 2018 by Alicia Teagle, Technology Volunteers has already helped over 30 charities in the Southwest, including donating over 3,000 laptops. Already well known in the Southwest, the next step for Technology Volunteers is to expand across the UK, helping to close the digital skills gap within the charity sector. If you are a volunteer looking to donate your time and help give back, or alternatively, if you are a charity looking for tech and IT support please get in touch at: hello@tehnologyvolunteers.org
